Our Story
It all started when…
Max has always had a passion for wine. When he was a child he would insist on trying tastes of his parents’ glasses and sniff the corks of their bottles. When he grew up, he became a sommelier at a restaurant with over 1,500 labels on the menu. In 2015, he met the love of his life, Kenya. She had recently moved from Mexico to Boston and was looking to continue her career as an architect. Max and Kenya began dating and their first ever vacation was a trip to San Miguel de Allende to attend her friend’s wedding. Max immediately fell in love with the food, the people, and the culture of Mexico and knew that he wanted to return.
In 2016 he got his wish. Another one of Kenya’s friends was getting married in Ensenada, a mere 20 minutes from the Valle de Guadalupe. When Kenya suggested taking a day to visit the vineyards, Max was perplexed. He didn’t even know that Mexico produced wine! They spent a wonderful day visiting wineries and learning about Mexican wine culture. Max was smitten. When Kenya asked him if he thought the wines were good, he said that he would put several of them on his own wine list, which for him was the highest praise.
Fast forward to 2018. Max and Kenya were getting married in the place where it all began, San Miguel de Allende. 120 of their closest friends and relatives had flown in to paticipate in the wedding and celebrations. Max had done his research and picked out some Mexican wine to be served at the reception. Max and Kenya hoped that people would like the wine and appreciate what Mexico had to offer. It went better than they could ever imagine! In the days after the wedding, they were bombarded with phone calls from Max’s family asking what wine was served and where they could buy it in Boston. When told it was Mexican, and there was no way to purchase it at home, they were crestfallen. And thus an idea was born…
